Across the nation, Scholarship America's programs -- including Dollars for Scholars -- have given out $4.2 billion to more than 2.5 million students since its founding in 1958.

In our community, our chapter has made a big impact on the lives of students as well.

MCW Dollars for Scholars is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) tax-exempt scholarship organization locally supported and operated by board volunteers.

This board consists of men and women in the Sherburn, Trimont, Welcome, and Dunnell areas.

This chapter was started in 1992, in the 31-year history of MCW Dollars for Scholars, we have distributed 1001 scholarships totaling $512,821.

The scholarships have certain criteria that the donor sets forth for consideration for their scholarship, which can be by geographical areas, fields of study, etc.  Some of the scholarships can be matched by our Collegiate Partners.

Money donated to MCW Dollars for Scholars is used in 2 ways.

      1. Annual or one-time donation received from raffles, fundraisers, or personal donations.  Donations of $500 carry the name of the contributor to the scholarship. All donation amounts are greatly appreciated and accepted.

       2. Permanent Fund- This is where the contributor sets up a permanent scholarship fund in a specific name and only the interest is used for the scholarship yearly.

Our MCW Dollars for Scholars administers 11 Permanent funds:

  •   Kenneth West Scholarship Fund
  •   MCW Teachers Association
  •   Ewin W Halkney Memorial Fund

The purpose of the MCW Dollars for Scholars is to help expand access to higher education for graduates of the MCW area by promoting the Dollars for Scholars program, developing an operational structure, raising funds for student aid distribution, and distributing awards on a fair and nondiscriminatory basis.
